3. Summary:
The Supreme Court notes a letter dated 11th August 2026 from the Additional District and Sessions Judge, 3rd Court, North 24 Pargarnas, Barasat, seeking an extension to complete a trial. The Court had earlier, by its order dated 11th May 2026, directed that the trial be concluded within three months. The Court expresses displeasure at the manner in which the trial judge sought additional time and at the judge’s unsolicited advice on bail matters. It directs the Registry to summon the presiding officer for an appropriate explanation. The matter is scheduled for hearing on 15‑10‑2026.

4. Conclusion:
Petition Dismissed
Judgment :-

1. The Additional District and Sessions Judge, 3rd Court, North 24 Parganas at Barasat vide letter dated 11th August, 2026 addressed to the Assistant Registrar, Supreme Court of India has prayed for some more time to complete the trial.

2. By our Order dated 11th May, 2026, we had directed the trial court to see that the trial is completed within 3 months from the date of the order.

3. We are quite disturbed with the manner in which the trial Judge has addressed a letter to this Court requesting for some more time.

4. It is not for the Presiding Officer to convey words of advice as to when this Court should grant bail and should not grant bail. The last two paragraphs of the letter are something which we have not appreciated.

5. Registry to call for an appropriate explanation from the concerned Presiding Officer at the earliest.

6. Put it on 15-10-2026.
