HOLDINGS (STAY OF EXECUTION PROCEEDINGS) (TAMIL NADU) AMENDMENT ACT, 1971

Received the assent of the Governor on the 11th August 1971 and first published in the Fort St. George Gazette Extraordinary dated the 19th August 1971.
An Act further to amend the Holdings (Stay of Execution Proceedings) Act, 1950, in its application to the Kanyakumari district.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of the [State of Tamil Nadu] in the Twenty-second Year of the Republic of India as follows:-
1. Short title and extent. - This Act may be called the Holdings (Stay of Execution Proceedings) ([Tamil Nadu] Amendment) Act, 1971.
(2) It extends to the whole of the Kanyakumari District.
Object & Reasons
Statement of Objects and Reasons - Holdings (Slay of Execution Proceedings) (Tamil Nadu) Amendment Act, 1971 (Tamil Nadu Act 19 of 1971). - The life of the Holdings (Stay of Execution Proceedings) Act, 1950 (Travancore-Cochin Act VIII of 1950), in its application to the Kanyakumari district, is due to expire on the 24th September, 1971. The implementation of the Tamil Nadu Minor Inams (Abolition and Conversion into Ryotwari) Act, 1963 (Tamil Nadu Act 30 of 1963), the Tamil Nadu (Transferred Territory) Ryotwari Settlement Act, 1964 (Tamil Nadu Act 30 of 1964), the Kanyakumari Sreepandaravaka Lands (Abolition and Conversion into Ryotwari) Act, 1964 (Tamil Nadu Act 31 of 1964), the Tamil Nadu (Transferred Territory) Thiruppuvaram Payment Abolition Act, 1964 (Tamil Nadu Act 32 of 1964) and the Tamil Nadu (Transferred Territory) Jenmikaram Payment of Abolition Act, 1964 (Tamil Nadu Act 39 of 1964), is not yet complete. The question of abolition of the special tenure relating to Sreepadam lands is also under consideration. In the circumstances, it is considered necessary to extend the life of the Travancore-Cochin Act VIII of 1950 by two years from the 25th September 1971.
2. The Bill seeks to achieve the above object.
Published in Part IV-Section 3 of the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette Extraordinary, dated the 29th June 1971.
2. Amendment of section 4, Travancore-Cochin Act VIII of 1950. - In section 4 of the Holdings (Stay of Execution Proceedings) Act, 1950 (Travancore-Cochin Act VIII of 1950), for the words "twenty-one years and six months", the words "twenty-three years and six months" shall be substituted.
