THE KARNATAKA OFFICIAL LANGUAGE (AMENDMENT) ACT, 2020

An Act further to amend the Karnataka Official Language Act, 1963.
Whereas it is expedient further to amend the Karnataka Official Language Act, 1963. (Karnataka Act 26 of 1963) for the purposes hereinafter appearing;
Be it enacted by the Karnataka State Legislature in the seventy first year of the Republic of India, as follows:-
1. Short title and commencement.- (1) This Act may be called the Karnataka Official Language (Amendment) Act, 2020.
(2) It shall come into force at once.
2. Substitution of section 5A.- In the Karnataka Official Language Act, 1963, (Karnataka Act 26 of 1963) for section 5A, the following shall be substituted, namely:-
"5A. Authorised Kannada translation of Central and State Acts, Rules, Regulations etc.,—(1) A translation in Kannada Language published under the authority of the Governor in the Official Gazette of any Central Act or Ordinance promulgated by the President with respect to any of the matters enumerated in List III of the Seventh Schedule to the Constitution or of any State Act or of any Ordinance made by the Governor, shall be deemed to be authoritative text thereof in Kannada language.
(2) A translation in Kannada Language published under the authority of the State Government in the Official Gazette of any rules, regulations, bye-laws, scheme, order etc., issued by the State Government under the Constitution or under any Central Act or any State Act or any other law in force in the State, shall be deemed to be the authoritative text thereof in Kannada language.” By Order and in the name of the Governor of Karnataka, (K.
