CHENNAI CITY POLICE LAWS (AMENDMENT) ACT, 2024
The following Act of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly received the assent of the Governor on the 5th July 2024 and is hereby published for general information:—
ACT No. 26 OF 2024.
An Act further to amend certain City Police Laws in the State of Tamil Nadu.
Be it enacted by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Tamil Nadu in the Seventy-fifth Year of the Republic of India as follows:—
PART I.
PRELIMINARY
Short title and commencement.
1. (1) This Act may be called the Chennai City Police Laws (Amendment) Act, 2024.
(2) It shall come into force on such date as the State
Government may, by notification, appoint.
PART II.
AMENDMENT TO THE CHENNAI CITY POLICE (EXTENSION TO THE CITY OF MADURAI AND TO THE CITY OF COIMBATORE) ACT, 1987.
Tamil Nadu Act 32 of 1987.
Amendment of section 2.
2. In section 2 of the Chennai City Police (Extension to the City of Madurai and to the City of Coimbatore) Act, 1987, for clauses (2) and (3), the following clauses shall be substituted, namely:—
“(2) “City of Coimbatore” means the area declared by the
Government, by notification, to be the City of Coimbatore;
(3) “City of Madurai” means the area declared by the
Government, by notification, to be the City of Madurai;”.
PART III.
AMENDMENT TO THE CHENNAI CITY POLICE (EXTENSION TO THE CITIES OF SALEM, TIRUCHIRAPPALLI AND TIRUNELVELI) ACT, 1997.
Tamil Nadu Act 51 of 1997.
Amendment of section 2.
3. In section 2 of the Chennai City Police (Extension to the Cities of Salem, Tiruchirappalli and Tirunelveli) Act, 1997,for clauses (2) and (3), the following clauses shall be substituted, namely:—
“(2) “City of Tiruchirappalli” means the area declared by the Government, by notification, to be the City of Tiruchirappalli;
(3) “City of Tirunelveli” means the area declared by the
Government, by notification, to be the City of Tirunelveli;”.
PART IV.
AMENDMENT TO THE CHENNAI CITY POLICE (EXTENSION TO THE CITY OF TIRUPPUR) ACT, 2012.
Amendment of section 2.
Tamil Nadu Act 35 of 2012.
4. In section 2 of the Chennai City Police (Extension to the City of Tiruppur) Act, 2012, for clause (2), the following clause shall be substituted, namely:—
“(2) “City of Tiruppur” means the area declared by the Government, by notification, to be the City of Tiruppur;”.
