THE KARNATAKA GRAM SWARAJ AND PANCHAYAT RAJ (SECOND AMENDMENT) ACT, 2022

An Act further to amend the Karnataka Gram Swaraj and Panchayat Raj

Act, 1993.

Whereas, it is expedient further to amend the Karnataka Gram Swaraj

and Panchayat Raj Act, 1993 (Karnataka Act 14 of 1993) for the purposes

hereinafter appearing;

Be it enacted by the Karnataka State Legislature in the seventy third

year of the Republic of India, as follows:-

1. Short title and commencement.- (1) This Act may be called the

Karnataka Gram Swaraj and Panchayat Raj (Second Amendment) Act, 2022.

(2) It shall be deemed to have come into force with effect from the 22nd day of

August, 2022.

2. Amendment of section 121.- In section 121 of the Karnataka Gram

Swaraj and Panchayat Raj Act, 1993 (Karnataka Act 14 of 1993) (hereinafter

referred to as the Principal Act),-

(a) in clause (i), for the words “two lakhs” the words “two lakh thirty

thousand” shall be substituted; and

(b) in clause (ii), for the words “two lakhs” the words “two lakh thirty

thousand” shall be substituted.

3. Amendment of section 160.- In section 160 of the Principal Act,-

(a) for the words “not less than twenty persons” the words “not less than

twenty five members” shall be substituted; and

(b) after the proviso, the following shall be inserted, namely:-

“Provided further that, in case of a district having rural population of

more than seven lakhs but not more than nine lakhs fifty thousand there shall

be twenty eight elected members.”

4. Repeal and savings.- (1) The Karnataka Gram Swaraj and Panchayat

Raj (Amendment) Ordinance, 2022 (Karnataka Ordinance 06 of 2022) is hereby

repealed.

(2) Notwithstanding such repeal, anything done or any action taken under the

principal Act, as amended by the said Ordinance, shall be deemed to have been done

or taken under the principal Act, as amended by this Act.
