THE INDIAN REGISTRATION (WEST BENGAL AMENDMENT) ACT, 1955

West Bengal Act 6 of 1956

[27th January, 1956.]

An Act to amend the Indian Registration Act, 1908, in its application to West Bengal.

Whereas it is expedient to amend the Indian Registration Act, 1908, in its application to West Bengal for the purpose and in the manner hereinafter appearing;

It is hereby enacted as follows :-

1. Short title and extent. - (1) This Act may be called the Indian Registration (West Bengal Amendment) Act, 1955.

(2) It extends to the whole of West Bengal.

2. Act 16 of 1908 amended in its application to West Bengal. - The Indian Registration Act, 1908 (hereinafter referred to as the said Act), shall, in its application to West Bengal, be amended for the purpose and in the manner hereinafter provided.

3. Amendment of section 78. - Section 78 of the said Act, shall be renumbered as sub-section (1) of section 78 and to the said section as so renumbered, the following sub-section shall be added, namely :-

"(2) The State Government, if it is of opinion that there are reasonable grounds for doing so, may, by order published in the Official Gazette, remit in the whole or any part of West Bengal any fee or fees in respect of any matter or matters enumerated in clauses (a) to (i) of sub-section (1), either generally or for any particular class or classes of cases and in respect of persons generally or of any particular class or classes of persons.".
