THE MADRAS CITY POLICE AND GAMING (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1949


(Received the assent of the Governor on the 28th March 1949; and published in the Fort St. George Gazette, dated the 5th April 1949)


An Act further to amend the Madras City Police Act, 1888, and the (These words were substituted for the word "Madras'' by the Tamil Nadu Adaptation of Laws Order, 1969, as amended by the Tamil Nadu Adaptation of Laws (Second Amendment) Order, 1969) [Tamil Nadu] Gaming Act, 1930.

Whereas it is expedient further to amend the Madras City Police Act, 1888, and the (These words were substituted for the word "Madras'' by the Tamil Nadu Adaptation of Laws Order, 1969, as amended by the Tamil Nadu Adaptation of Laws (Second Amendment) Order, 1969) [Tamil Nadu] Gaming Act, 1930, for the purposes hereinafter appearing; It is hereby enacted ns follows:—

1. Short title and Commencement.

(1) This Act may be called the Madras City Police and Gaming (Amendment) Act, 1949.

(2) This section and sections 3 and 5 shall come into force at once. (The expression "and sections 2 and 4 on such date as the Pro­vincial Government may, by notification in the Fort St. George Gazette, appoint." was omitted by section 2 (i) of the Tamil Nadu Horse Races (Abolition of Wagering or Beating) Act, 1974 (Tamil Nadu Act 44 of 1974)) [ * * * * ]

(This sub-section was inserted by section 2(2) of the Tamil Nadu Horse Races (Abolition of Wagering or Betting) Act, 1974 (Tamil Nadu Act 44 of 1974))

[(3) Sections 2 and 4 shall come into force on the 31st March 1975, notwithstanding anything contained in any law for the time being in force or in any notification or order issued by the Government.]

2. [The amendment made by section 2 has been incorporated in the Principal Act (Tamil Nadu Act III of 1888)].

(Repealed by Tamil Nadu Act XXXVI of 1955)
