Statement of Objects and Reasons

Amending Act 20 of 2007:- Ramanagara is about 50 kms from Bangalore City on the Bangalore-Mysore state highway. In order to reduce the pressure on Bangalore city to a great extent and to develop Ramanagar as an alternative city to Bangalore, the State Government is contemplating to convert Ramanagar as a district. In this regard, process has been initiated for the construction of District level offices for Revenue Police and Zilla Panchayat. It is proposed to construct a Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences campus along with Medical, Dental, Pharmacy, Nursing colleges and Health complex with 250 bedded super speciality hospital and 750 bedded hi-tech hospital and other allied buildings.

THE RAJIV GANDHI UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH SCIENCES (AMENDMENT) ACT, 2007

(Received the assent of the Governor on the eighth day of August, 2007)

An Act further to amend the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences Act, 1994.

Whereas, it is expedient further to amend the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences Act, 1994 (Karnataka Act 44 of 1994) for the purposes hereinafter appearing;

Be it enacted by the Karnataka State Legislature in the fifty-eighth year of the Republic of India, as follows:-

1. Short title and commencement.-

(1) This Act may be called the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (Amendment) Act, 2007.

(2) It shall come into force at once.

2. Amendment of section 3.- In the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences Act, 1994 (Karnataka Act 44 of 1994) in section 3 in sub-section (4), for the words "shall be at Bangalore" the words "shall be at Ramanagara "shall be substituted.
