STATEMENT OF OBJECTS AND REASONS
Amending Act 9 of 2007.- The Karnataka Ports (Landing and Shipping Fees) Act, 1961 was enacted in 1961 and the penalty incorporated therein was also fixed keeping in view the limit at that time. Therefore in order to bring the provisions of the Act more effectively, it is considered necessary to increase the amount of penalty for violation of the provisions of the Act.
Hence the Bill.

THE KARNATAKA PORTS (LANDING AND SHIPPING FEES) (AMENDMENT) ACT, 2007

An Act to amend the Karnataka Ports (Landing and Shipping Fees) Act, 1961 (Karnataka Act No. 20 of 1961).
Whereas, it is expedient to amend the Karnataka Ports (Landing and Shipping Fees) Act, 1961 (Karnataka Act No. 20 of 1961) for the purposes hereinafter appearing;
Be it enacted by the Karnataka State Legislature in the fifty-eighth year of the Republic of India as follows:
1. Short title and commencement.- (1) This Act may be called the Karnataka Ports (Landing and Shipping Fees) (Amendment) Act, 2007.
(2) It shall come into force at once.
2. Amendment of section 10.- In sub-section (3) of section 10 of the Karnataka Ports (Landing and Shipping Fees) Act, 1961 (Karnataka Act No. 20 of 1961) for the words "One hundred rupees" and "five rupees" the words "One lakh rupees" and "five thousand rupees" shall respectively be substituted. |
