THE KERALA POLICE (SECOND AMENDMENT) [1]


ACT, 1979


(ACT 36 OF 1979)


       An Act further to amend the Kerala Police Act, 1960


      Preamble.- WHEREAS it is expedient further to amend the Kerala Police Act, 1960, for the purpose hereinafter appearing;


       BE it enacted in the Thirtieth Year of the Republic of India as follows:-


       1 . Short title .- This Act may be called the Kerala Police (Second Amendment) Act, 1979.


       2. Insertion of new section 53A .-After section 53 of the Police Act, 1960 (5 of 1961), the following section shall be inserted, namely:-


        “53A. Penalty for possession of property believed to have been stolen.-Whoever is found in possession or is proved to have been in possession of anything which there is reason to believe to be stolen property or property fraudulently obtained and for the possession of which he fails satisfactorily to account, shall on conviction be liable to fine out exceeding one hundred rupees or to imprisonment for a term which may extend to three months or to both.”.
