An Act further to amend the Kerala Panchayat Raj Act, 1994.
Preamble.- WHEREAS, it is expedient further to amend the Kerala Panchayat Raj Act, 1994 (13 of 1994) for the purposes hereinafter appearing;
BE it enacted in the Fifty-sixth year of the Republic of India as follows:-
1. Short title and commencement.- (1) This Act may be called the Kerala Panchayat Raj (Second Amendment) Act, 2005.
(2) It shall come into force at once.
2. Amendment of section 6.- In the Kerala Panchayat Raj Act, 1994 (13 of 1994), in section 6, for sub-section (3), the following sub-section shall be substituted, namely:-
“(3) The number of seats to be notified under sub-section (1) or sub-section (2) shall not,-
(a) in the case of a Village Panchayat, be less than twelve or more than twenty-two;
(b) in the case of a Block Panchayat, be less than twelve or more than twenty-two;
(c) in the case of a District Panchayat, be less than sixteen or more than thirty-two:
Provided that the ratio between the population of the territorial area of a Panchayat at any level and the number of seats in such Panchayats to be filled by election shall, so far as practicable, be the same throughout State.”.
