Preamble.—WHEREAS it is expedient to amend the Cochin University Act, 1971, for the purpose hereinafter appearing;
BE it enacted in the Twenty-fifth Year of the Republic of India as follows:-
Short tile.- This Act may be called the Cochin University (Amendment) Act, 1974.
Amendment of section 56.- In section 56 of the Cochin University Act, 1971 (30 of 1971) (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), the following proviso shall be inserted at the end, namely:-
“Provided that if for any reason, the constitution of any of the authorities of the University in accordance with the provisions in Chapter IV of this Act cannot be done before the expiry of the period for which that authority is nominated under sub-section (2), the Chancellor may, by notification in the Gazette, extend the period of that authority for a further period not exceeding one year.”.
3. Repeal and saving.—(1) The Cochin University (Amendment) Ordinance, 1973 (19 of 1973), is hereby repealed.
(2). Notwithstanding such repeal, anything done or any action taken under the principal Act as amended by the said Ordinance shall be deemed to have been done or taken under the principal Act as amended by this Act as if this Act had come into force on the 6th day of December, 1973.
