MYSORE ABOLITION OF WHIPPING ACT, 1949

An Act to provide for the abolition of the sentence of whipping. Whereas, it is expedient to provide for the abolition of the sentence of whipping. It is hereby enacted as follows
Section 1 Short title, extent and commencement
(1) This Act may be called 11. Substituted for the words and figures "the Abolition of Whipping Act, 1949" by Act No.1 of 1956 [the Mysore Abolition of Whipping Act, 1949].
(2) It extends to the 2[whole of the State of Mysore except Bellary District.]
(3) It shall come into force at once.
Section 2 Abolition of the sentence of whipping
Notwithstanding anything contained in any law for the time being in force, no person shall be punished with a sentence of whipping by any Court or other authority for any offence under any law whatsoever.
Section 3 Repeal of certain Acts
The Act specified in the Schedule are hereby repealed to the extent mentioned in the fourth column thereof.
