KARNATAKA LEPROSY LAWS (REPEAL) ACT, 1988

An Act to repeal the Leprosy Act in force in the State of Karnataka. Whereas, it is expedient to repeal the Lepers Act, 1898 (Central Act 3 of 1898), the Mysore Lepers Act, 1925 (Mysore Act 4 of 1925), the Hyderabad Leprosy Act, 1954 (Hyderabad Act 4 of 1954), the Lepers (Bombay Amendment) Act, 1955 (Bombay Act 28 of 1955) for the purposes hereinafter appearing; Be it enacted by the Karnataka State Legislature in the Thirty-ninth Year of the Republic of India as follows.
Section1 Short title and commencement
(1) This Act, may be called the Karnataka Leprosy Laws (Repeal) Act, 1988.
(2) It shall come into force at once.
Section2 Definitions
In this Act unless the context otherwise requires "repealed Act" means the Lepers Act, 1898 (Central Act 3 of 1898), the Mysore Lepers Act, 1925 (Mysore Act 4 of 1925), the Hyderabad Leprosy Act, 1954 (Hyderabad Act 4 of 1954) and the Lepers (Bombay Amendment) Act, 1955 (Bombay Act 28 of 1955).
Section3.
Repeal of Central Act 3 of 1898, Karnataka Act 4 of 1925, Hyderabad Act 4 of 1954 and Bombay Act 28 of 1955. The Lepers Act, 1898 (Central Act 3 of 1898) as in force in the Belgaum Area and Mangalore and Kollegal Areas, the Mysore Lepers Act, 1925 (Mysore Act 4 of 1925) as in force in the Karnataka Area, the Hyderabad Leprosy Act, 1954 (Hyderabad Act 4 of 1954) as in force in Gulbarga Area and the Lepers (Bombay Amendment) Act, 1955 (Bombay Act 28 of 1955) as in force in Belgaum Area are hereby repealed.
Section4 Declaration
It is hereby declared for removal of doubts that all persons detained in lepers asylums shall stand discharged from the date of commencement of this Act and all restrictions put on lepers by or under the repealed Acts as movements to or from any local area or from following any trade or calling shall stand annulled. |
