THE INLAND STEAM-VESSELS (BENGAL AMENDMENT) ACT, 1940 Bengal Act 7 of 1940 [25th April, 1940.] An Act to amend the Inland Steam-vessels Act, 1917, in its application to Bengal. Whereas it is expedient to amend the Inland Steam-vessels Act, 1917, in its application to Bengal in the manner hereinafter appearing; It is hereby enacted as follows :- 1. Short title and commencement. - (1) This Act may be called the Inland Steam-vessels (Bengal Amendment) Act, 1940. (2) It shall come into force on such date as the [State] Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint. 2. Application of Act. - The Inland Steam-vessels Act, 1917, shall, in its application to [West Bengal], be amended in the manner hereinafter provided. 3. Insertion of new section 44A in Act 1 of 1917. - After section 44 of the Inland Steam-vessels Act, 1917, the following section shall be inserted namely:- "44A. Power of Court to award costs of investigation under this Chapter. - A Court making an investigation under this chapter may make such order as it thinks fit respecting the costs of the investigation or any part thereof and any money payable as costs by virtue of an order made under this section shall be recoverable under the provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, as if it were a fine.". |
