(First published, after having received the assent of the Governor in the " Gujarat Government Gazette" on the 30th October, 1964.)



An Act to provide for continuing the use of the English Language for the transaction of business in the State Legislature



It is hereby enacted in the Fifteenth Year of the Republic of India as follows:-



1. Short title and commencement. - This Act may be called the Gujarat State Legislature (Use of the English Language) Act, 1964.



(2) It shall come into force on the 26th day of January, 1965.



2. Continuance of English Language in State Legislature. - Notwithstanding the expiration of the period of fifteen years from the commencement of the Constitution of India, the English language may continue to be used for the transaction of business in the Legislature of the State of Gujarat in addition to any of the official languages of the State of Gujarat.



Explanation. - In this Act the expression "official languages" means the Gujarati language and the Hindi language in Devnagari script which have been declared under the Gujarat Official Languages Act, 1960 (Gujarat I of 1961) as the languages to be used for official purposes in the State of Gujarat.
