THE KARNATAKA RENT (AMENDMENT) ACT, 2008
KARNATAKA ACT NO. 28 OF 2011

(Received the assent of the President on the tenth day of June, 2011) An Act further to amend the Karnataka Rent Act, 1999.
Whereas it is expedient further to amend the Karnataka Rent Act, 1999 (Karnataka Act 34 of 2001) for the purposes hereinafter appearing;
Be it enacted by the Karnataka State Legislature in the fifty-ninth year of the Republic of India, as follows: -
1. Short title and commencement.- (1) This Act may be called the Karnataka Rent (Amendment) Act, 2008.
(2) It shall come into force at once.
2. Amendment of section 3.- In the Karnataka Rent Act, 1999 (Karnataka Act 34 of 2001), in section 3, in clause (n), after item (ii), the following shall be inserted, namely:-
"(iii) A deserted wife of a tenant who has been or is entitled to be in occupation of the matrimonial home or tenanted premises of husband; and
(iv) a divorced wife of a tenant who has a decree of divorce in which the right of residence in the matrimonial home or tenanted premises has been incorporated as one of the conditions of the decree of divorce."
