THE KARNATAKA STATE COMMISSION FOR BACKWARD CLASSES (AMENDMENT) ACT, 2014

An Act further to amend the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes Act, 1995. Whereas it is expedient further to amend the Karnataka State Commission for Backward
Classes Act, 1995 (Karnataka Act 28 of 1995) for the purposes hereinafter appearing;
Be it enacted by the Karnataka State Legislature in the Sixty-fifth year of the Republic of India, as follows:-
1. Short title and commencement.- (1) This Act may be called the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes (Amendment) Act, 2014.
(2) It shall come into force at once.
2. Amendment of section 3.- In the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes Act, 1995 (Karnataka Act 28 of 1995) (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), in section 3, in sub- section (2), for clause (d), the following shall be substituted, namely:-
"(d) the Commissioner, Backward Classes Welfare, shall be the Member-Secretary of the Commission."
3. Amendment of section 9.- In section 9 of the principal Act, in sub-section (1) for clause (ii) the following shall be substituted, namely:-
"(ii) to conduct survey on social and educational status of the citizens of the State, to identify the classes of citizens who are socially and educationally backward and to recommend to State Government for necessary measures;"
