Received the assent of the Governor on the 26th August 1954 and first published in the Fort. St. George Gazette on the 1st September 1954.



An Act to provide for and validate the grant of temporary permissions for the installation of oil engines in areas within the jurisdiction of local authorities in the [State of Tamil Nadu].



Whereas, it is expedient to provide for and validate the grant of temporary permission for the installation of oil engines in areas within the jurisdiction of local authorities in the [State of Tamil Nadu]; Be it enacted in the Fifth Year of our Republic as follows:-



1. Short title, extent and commencement. - (1) This Act may be called the Tamil Nadu Installation of Oil Engines (Temporary Permission) Act, 1954.



(2) It extends to the whole of the [State of Tamil Nadu].



(3) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 1st May 1953.



Object & Reasons



Statement of Objects and Reasons - Tamil Nadu Installation of Oil Engines (Temporary Permission) Act, 1954 (Tamil Nadu Act 23 of 1954). - For Statement of Objects and Reasons, please see Part IV- A, page 216 of the Fort St. George Gazette, dated the 30th June 1954. This Act was extended to the added territories by section 3 of, and the First Schedule to, the Tamil Nadu (Added Territories) Extension of Laws Act, 1964 (Tamil Nadu Act 8 of1964) repealing the corresponding law in force in that territory.



2. Grant of temporary permission for installation of oil engines. - (1) Where a person who has lawfully installed in any premises, whether in a residential area or not, any machinery or manufacturing plant driven by electric power, applies for permission to install an oil engine to generate power for working such machinery or plant, the Commissioner, Corporation of [Chennai], the Municipal Council, the District Board or the Panchayat, as the case maybe, may grant permission to such person to install such an oil engine.



(2) Permission granted under sub-section (1) shall be valid for a period of one year from the date of the grant and, subject to that condition, shall be deemed to be permission granted by the Commissioner, Corporation of [Chennai], the Municipal Council, the District Board or the Panchayat, as the case may be, under the [Chennai] City Municipal Act, 1919 ([Tamil Nadu] [Act IV of 1919)], the [Tamil Nadu] District Municipalities Act, 1920 ([Tamil Nadu] Act V of 1920), the [Tamil Nadu] District Boards Act, 1920 ([Tamil Nadu] [Act XIV of 1920)], or the [Tamil Nadu] Village Panchayats Act, 1950 ([Tamil Nadu] [Act X of 1950)].
